Majority of Scots want Independence from the UK

More than half of Scots would like Scotland to become an independent country following the outcome of last week’s EU referendum.

A survey, carried out on behalf of Tecmark, revealed that 57% of Scots would like to separate from the UK.

Looking at the age differences, it’s Scotland’s 25 – 34 year olds (68%) who are more in favour of a divorce from the UK. That’s compared with the 61% of 65+ residents who want Scotland to remain a part of Great Britain.

With Nicola Sturgeon fighting furiously to keep Scotland in the European Union, it appears younger Scots have been swayed to independence from the UK, potentially in a bid to save their EU status.

Tecmark’s director, Richard Heyes, says: “It’s interesting to see how recent events have affected Scottish residents’ view on independence. It was only last year that the country voted in favour of remaining a part of the UK.

“As someone running a company, my primary concern with Brexit and now with talk of a second Scottish Independence referendum is the impact on business. These are testing times for businesses with a lot of uncertainty. But we’re resilient and I fully expect that, whatever decisions and changes lie ahead, the British business community will adapt.”
