Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire hosts Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations at Bowcliffe Hall

Three hundred and fifty people including representatives of the emergency services, local communities, universities and local authorities gathered at Bowcliffe Hall on 25th June to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Hosted by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid M Roscoe, guests also included local scouts and the cadets from the 868 (Mirfield) Squadron Air Training Corps.

The Rt Rev. the Lord Bishop of Leeds, Nicholas Baines, formally opened the celebration to commemorate Her Majesty’s landmark birthday in the grounds of the nineteenth century; grade 11 listed Bowcliffe Hall where Jonathan Turner, serial entrepreneur and CEO of The Bayford Group, has spearheaded a multi-million, multi-phase restoration.

On display was the new Yorkshire air ambulance - a £6m state-of the-art Airbus H145 helicopter - along with fire engines, the West Yorkshire Medic Response Team and vintage cars. Additional activities spanned wood carvers, a swing band and kite flying.

Said the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid M Roscoe: “On such a momentous milestone we were keen to invite guests from across our contrasting landscapes of West Yorkshire, which has a population over 2 million people and covers 787 square miles.

“Bowcliffe Hall and its rich heritage was the perfect backdrop for such an occasion and we would like to thank Jonathan Turner for his wonderful hospitality in helping to make the day so memorable for our special guests.”

Jonathan Turner commented: “The Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire and her team play an instrumental role as committed ambassadors of West Yorkshire and the guests reflect the rich diversity of our communities and the critical services which are vital in serving local people. We’re delighted the celebrations have been an amazing success. “
