The ‘Ice Man’ cometh

Forget Adele headlining at Glastonbury and Coldplay joining forces with Barry Gibb to get everybody dancing in the mud, Northumberland Wildlife Trust has a polar explorer from our region headlining at its ‘Our Wildlife 2016’ festival next month.

Conrad Dickinson, who guided Prince Harry during the Walking with the Wounded 2013 South Pole Allied Challenge, will be guest speaker at the one day wildlife festival on the Blagdon Hall Estate on Saturday 20 August, between 10am - 4pm.

Conrad, who was born and brought up in Northumberland, is still the first and only Briton to have achieved the ‘Polar Grand Slam’, and, has completed over 63 expeditions, some of them in the most challenging terrains in the world. He will be talking about his polar exploits and his role as Team Leader for Team Glenfiddich during with the 2013 Walking with the Wounded race to Antarctica.

Mike Pratt, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Chief Executive said: “Conrad is such an inspirational person and his expedition tales are really wonderful to listen to… it really is worth coming along just to listen to him.”

The outdoor festival offers people exclusive access to Blagdon Hall’s gardens, whilst being serenaded by Northumbrian Pipers ‘Robson’s Choice’ in addition to a day of wildlife encounters ranging from tractor-trailer safaris and wildlife story telling to the chance to get up close to a host of wild birds and mammals.
