DV8 Designs unveils revamp of craft ale pub
A popular Salford pub has undergone a complete creative overhaul courtesy of Warrington-based architect and interior design firm DV8 Designs.
Renovations to the 130-year-old Black Lion pub were carried out by Managing Director Lee Birchall and his team, in a bid to transform the historic build into a contemporary craft ale house.
Following an impressive six-figure sum investment, an extension to the rear of the Chapel Street property has been added to create additional trading space for guests to dine and socialise.
Lee said: “Now serving as a craft ale pub, The Black Lion has great cultural heritage so from the outset the objective was to preserve the magnificent history of the building, whilst incorporating a modern and innovative spin on the décor. Planning permission was secured to completely extend the rear end of the pub that enabled us to create an impressive mild steel frame bar that holds two fully functioning beer barrels to the back, which is one of the best features within the pub.
“The inspiration for the design is industrial meets contemporary city centre pub and we utilised this through the bar fitting, vintage furniture and lighting. However, it was important to keep the ’locals’ homely atmosphere so to ensure that the space remained warm and welcoming, an earthy colour palate and wallpapers were introduced to soften the urban design.“
Located in Warrington’s Birchwood Park, DV8 Designs has attained high acclaim through its impressive and diverse portfolio that includes residential, bars, pubs, restaurants, hotels, leisure centres, swimming pools, spas, golf clubs and offices.
Lee added: “We know that the people of Manchester are passionate about their pubs, especially craft ale. We think that the renovation of The Black Lion has invigorated the venue whilst completely retaining its original charm, forming a more welcoming and open environment for people from all walks of life to enjoy.“
