Russell Roof Tiles’ Top Sustainable Credentials

Burton on Trent based Russell Roof Tiles has become the only British roof tile manufacturer to have achieved an “Excellent” rating for responsible sourcing, recognising the company’s dedication to sustainability.

Accredited with “Excellent” for BES 6001:Issue 3, Russell Roof Tiles has confirmed it is serious about investing in sustainability right across its procurement process, from raw materials through to energy management throughout its production factories.

BES 6001 is the internationally recognised ‘Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products’ by the BRE (Building Research Establishment). Russell Roof Tiles was given an “Excellent” performance rating according to the standard, meaning the company achieves maximum credits towards BREEAM and the revised building regulations, which replaced the ‘Code for Sustainable Homes’.

The construction industry is a major consumer of resources and has a large impact on the sustainability. BRE Global developed a Framework Standard for Responsible Sourcing (BES 6001) a standard and certification scheme created to help organisations manage and reduce their impact throughout the supply chain.

The new certification means that Russell Roof Tiles are one of only 88 companies to be listed on Green Book Live – a web database of companies accredited with BES 6001 which was designed to help specifiers and end users identify products and services that can help to reduce their impact on the environment.

The company specialises in manufacturing concrete roof tiles and plastic accessories.

Russell Roof Tiles manufactures on state of the art plants in Burton on Trent and Lochmaben. The company has a multimillion capital investment programme to ensure that its production is highly efficient and as part of this has invested nearly £5 million over the past two years.
