A new match scheme to encourage philanthropic support

Ron and Louise Bowey, Patrons of the Community Foundation held a summer drinks reception at their home in Ponteland. At the event, the Community Foundation announced a new Million Pound Match scheme following a legacy gift from the late Ronald Edward William Murray.

On 5 September 2016, the Community Foundation is launching an initiative that will add a £1 for £2 match on donations. The Million Pound Match Endowment Challenge was established with a legacy gift from the late Mr Murray, who was introduced to the Community Foundation by the late John Kilner.

The £1 match for £2 donation is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and it aims to encourage new donors to establish an endowment fund, help grassroots giving to our theme and affinity funds and support existing donors to grow their Funds and better serve our communities for generations to come.

The launch event was kindly sponsored by Muckle LLP, who was recently named as the Regional Law Firm of the Year at the Solicitors’ Journal Awards 2016. To view photos from the event please click here.

Hugh Welch, Senior Partner at Muckle LLP, a corporate and personal fund-holder at the Community Foundation said:

“We’re excited to support the launch of the Million Pound Match Endowment Challenge which is a fantastic opportunity for philanthropists and local businesses in our region to give back and support the long term vitality of community projects and charities in the North East.

“Muckle LLP donates 1% of its pre-tax profits to corporate funds at the Community Foundation. Through this we support a wide variety of causes in the area we operate as a business, ensuring that our local communities can grow with our success as the leading law firm in Newcastle.”
