Seasoned supper club veteran to open rustic Portuguese restaurant at London Bridge arches
A new restaurant is set to bring contemporary Portuguese to the arches at London Bridge this September, when Bar Duoro opens this September at Flat Iron Square.
The restaurant has been thought up by restaurateur Max Graham and head chef Tiago Santos, who have previously worked together during a three-month residency in Porto and will be pairing together for a one-night event at Soho Farm House, and draws on Max’s childhood spent in the Portuguese capital.
Serving a range of dishes inspired by no-frills eateries known as tascas and cerveijarias in Porto and Lisbon, the restaurant will offer what it describes as a ‘contemporary take on Portuguese cuisine’ along with a regional wine selection.
Max and Tiago, both separately and in tandem, have ran successful supper clubs and pop-up dining events including Pop Brixton, Carousel and an upcoming one-night event at Soho Farm House.
An 8 month pop up in Soho in 2013 called Churchill’s Port House, also drew on Max’s family business which has been making wine in the Douro Valley for two centuries.
Located at Arch 35B in the newly-regenerated Bankside area of Southwark, the new restaurant will occupy one of six refitted arches due for completion this year which are to house other restaurant and leisure destinations.
The restaurateur is also working with architectural designer Steph Gallia and branding agency Studio 91 for the innards, with a brief to balance the innovative energy in the area with an authetic rustic Portuguese feel.
