Sonya reaches for the sky for Age UK
A THRILLSEEKER charity worker has proven the sky’s the limit by jumping out of a plane as part of a string of 50th birthday fundraising challenges.
Age UK North Tyneside (Age UKNT) employer Sonya Roe, aged 50, took to the skies to jump 10,000ft as part of a ‘things to do when turning 50’ fundraiser.
The skydive added to Sonya’s daredevil accolades as part of her 50th birthday challenges which included an underwater helicopter survival challenge, climbing Ben Nevis and a North Sea dash.
Also taking part in the skydive in Peterlee were Abigail Parker Customer Service Assistant and Andy Rowley of The Frontier Group, who wanted to support Sonya’s fundraising efforts and raise awareness of Age UKNT.
So far, the trio have raised more than £1000 and are hoping to smash their fundraising target of £3000. All money raised will go towards Age UK North Tyneside’s Information and Advice team which offers free, confidential and impartial advice to older people and their carers in North Tyneside.
Sonya, a customer operations manager, said: “The past year has been a concentrated effort to celebrate my 50th birthday milestone in a memorable and unique way while raising much-needed funds for a charity that is close to my heart.
“I’ve been working for Age UKNT for the past two years and I’ve seen first-hand the amazing work the service provides. I’m a daredevil at heart and I always wanted to do a skydive so it seemed like a perfect opportunity to mark my 50th birthday.
“The skydive was fantastic and certainly an experience I’ll never forget - I’m thrilled that Abigail and Andy were there for moral support. Everybody has been so generous with their donations which will make a big difference to the charity.”
