Model pupil wins Stagecoach design competition

A creative student from Lancashire is celebrating after winning a regional competition to design the perfect Stagecoach bus.

Ten year-old Jasmine Skiba from The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School in Preston, beat hundreds of entries from children with her creative and colourful, three dimensional bus design.

Primary schools from across the county took part in the special design competition held by Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire to celebrate Catch the Bus Week, a programme which encourages children and their parents to use public transport.

More than 200 schools from Lancashire took part in the competition, which saw thousands of pupils put their artistic skills to the test, drawing, painting and even constructing miniature versions of their own Stagecoach buses. Pupils were asked to upload photographs of their very best bus designs onto social media using the hashtag #CTBW to be in with a chance of winning.

The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School was awarded £250 worth of art supplies for Jasmine’s winning design, which will be displayed on Stagecoach buses for a month.

Cathy Jackson, from The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School said: “Art and creativity is so important to pupils and teachers at our school and we’re so pleased that Jasmine’s hard work and creative talent has been rewarded with new art supplies for the school, they will definitely be put to good use!”

Elisabeth Tasker, managing director of Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, said: “I’d like to say a huge well done to all the other pupils who took part in the competition, we saw some fantastic designs and will be keeping an eye for all the future famous artists amongst you! A huge congratulations to Jasmine who won the top prize for the best bus design. Her bus model was inventive and colourful and perfectly reflects how exciting bus journeys can be for children.

“School children are some of our most regular passengers and we’re really focused on ensuring that they have great journeys with us. Free Wi-Fi, friendly drivers, and comfy seats make getting to and from school fun, comfortable and convenient for the whole family, and we were delighted to see so many pupils from Lancashire keen to get creative for the competition.”
