Roch Bank scheme adds 61 new homes to Rochdale housing stock

A new development of 61 homes for private rent opened in Rochdale this week.

Residential and urban regeneration company Sigma Capital, housebuilder Countryside Properties and Rochdale Borough Council teamed up to officially launch the 4.7-acre Roch Bank development.

The homes, which have transformed a previously derelict industrial mill site off Nile Street, were revealed on Thursday (July 28) by council leader Cllr Richard Farnell and chief executive Cllr Steve Rumbelow.

Roch Bank is located a mile from Rochdale town centre and comprises a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom family homes, some of which overlook the nearby River Roch.

So far 16 of the properties are tenanted, with a further 10 reserved off plan.

The scheme was brought to fruition via funding from London-based Gatehouse Bank, with Sigma promoting the homes under the DifRent brand. Lettings and management services, meanwhile, are being provided by SDL Bigwood

Rochdale Borough Council leader Cllr Richard Farnell said: “It’s great to see these fantastic new homes, which are just a stone’s throw from our rapidly improving town centre.

“These properties will widen housing choice and help meet the demand for high quality family accommodation in the central Rochdale area.”

He added: “The scheme supports the wider regeneration of Rochdale, which has transformed our borough over the last five years.”

Sigma Capital chief exec Graham Barnet commented: “We are delighted to be launching this new PRS project today which is part of our commitment of 918 new homes in the North West.

“Rochdale is one of the largest market towns on the outskirts of Manchester and it is vital we continue to provide young couples and families with high quality privately rent homes to this growing Borough.”

SDL Bigwood director Paul Staley commented: “The DifRent Roch Bank development is bringing something new to Rochdale and we are delighted to be involved in the scheme as it is not only providing much needed high quality rental homes to the area but creating a community.

“We have already had a great deal of interest in the new homes with a number of residents ready to move in and I believe the remaining homes will hugely popular and will be snapped up quickly.”
