US software giant Mozilla relocates UK HQ to Southwark

US software giant Mozilla has uprooted its UK operations and made the move to new headquarters in Southwark in a building also occupied by the likes of Moonpig and Joseph Joseph.

The tech firm, which is most well-known for its Firefox browser, has taken a 3,200 sq ft office space at The Metal Box Factory, which is owned and operated by commercial property group Workspace, a high-tech commercial development that is housed within a refurbished 19th century building.

All of Mozilla’s 30-strong London workforce have made the move to the new building from the organisation’s previous home in Covent Garden.

Commenting on the move, Rob Middleton, Director of WorldWide Workplace Resources at Mozilla, said: “We are really pleased with our exciting new office in Metal Box Factory. In particular, the connectivity here is fantastic and it meets the very challenging connectivity demands that we have at Mozilla.”

The building itself has also just become one of only seven buildings in the UK to be awarded the Wired Certified Platinum certification by WiredScore, in recognition of its connectivity standards and digital infrastructure.

Launched by the Mayor of London last November, the certification aims to raise building connectivity standards and provide a benchmark for landlords and developers when implementing connectivity in their buildings.

The Metal Box Factory was refurbished back in 2014, in conjunction with London-based infrastructure firm the Excell Group, with the aim of boosting infrastructure capabilities at the property to attract more high-growth tech firms.
