British firm sets the stage for Olympics opening ceremony 2016

Yorkshire based firm, Stage One celebrates the completion of its scenery and performer flying system for the opening ceremony at this year’s Olympic games in Rio.

Commissioned to design, engineer and operate the system, the firm promises spectators a truly energetic show at Maracana Stadium, Rio with more than a billion eyes set to be watching the event.

Stage One has installed a steel wire catenary above the stadium which will allow the aerial choreography of performers and scenery during the show. All of the hardware and software engineering for this aerial system has been designed, manufactured and installed by Stage One.

Tim Leigh, Sales & Marketing Director said “With an estimated broadcast audience of almost one billion there is considerable pressure to deliver a perfectly executed show. Feedback from rehearsals has been encouraging and we’re looking forward to delivering a perfect performance“.

With over 8,000 square metres of space at their facility in Tockwith, the firm has delivered projects both large and small. These have included work for Cadbury, Youtube, Jaguar and Selfridges.

The Opening Ceremony will be broadcast live on BBC One from 23:40BST.
