Spreadshirt Appoints Hugo Smoter as Chief Commercial Officer
Ecommerce platform also creates two new management positions to oversee Personalisation Services and Marketplaces
Spreadshirt, the ecommerce platform for spreading ideas on something tangible, has appointed Hugo Smoter to the newly-created position of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) from Head of Global Marketing. He takes on the overall responsibility for the European and North American commercial sector as the company sets its sights on further growth.
In this new role, Hugo will be responsible for the commercial strategy and for developing the commercial teams to achieve the overall corporate goals. This will involve building on the company’s three core areas: Spreadshirt’s own and external marketplaces (e.g. Amazon and eBay), partner and white-label shops, and create-your-own. Hugo will be in charge of growing Spreadshirt’s long and short-term commercial success and market share. He will be based at the company’s Boston, USA office. “As CCO, my focus will be on continuing to build on our customer-centric approach and ensuring that the company’s marketing, product development and service units are aligned to our customers’ and partners’ needs.” explains Hugo Smoter.
“Spreadshirt is growing and taking a market-lead in the three models of allowing people to create, sell and buy ideas using print-on-demand marketplaces, ecommerce shop systems and create-your-own tools. In the next few months we will be accelerating the business with exciting product releases, and more globalisation of our services.” says Philip Rooke, CEO “Alongside our growth, we are also expanding our management and organisation. With his previous experience leading the agile marketing team and the direct-to-consumer business unit, Hugo will add to our commercial strengths and be of great benefit for us in the organisation as we continue to grow. I am very pleased to welcome his broad talents as he steps up to our senior management team.”
Born in Poland, the 37-year-old has over 14 years of experience in online and direct marketing. Hugo joined Spreadshirt in 2008, and focused on growing search traffic as a primary channel of customer acquisition for the company, resulting in 58% growth rate in the USA and 32% global revenue growth in 2012. He is a graduate of Principia College and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Economics. He also holds an MBA degree, with a focus in Marketing, from University of Massachusetts. Before Spreadshirt Hugo was Interactive Marketing Manager at DigitalGlobe.
In addition to this role, two other management positions have been newly created that will report to the CCO. The company is looking for two talented individuals, interested in working across international markets, to join as Director of Personalisation Services and Director of Marketplaces. Both positions will be based at Spreadshirt’s European headquarters in Leipzig, Germany. Deadline for applications is 30 August 2016.
