‘Canaries’ head for great heights with new shirts thanks to Jones Bros

A championship-winning football team, nicknamed the Canaries, is soaring to new heights after securing a sponsorship deal with leading civil engineering company Jones Bros.

Jones Bros has purchased 50 new polo shirts for players in Caernarfon Town FC’s first team and reserve teams 16-18 category in a £1,000 deal.

The bright yellow shirts will be worn by the players before and after matches and when visiting other clubs for away matches.

The club, which will this year defend its Cymru Alliance title, has played at the Oval in Caernarfon since 1888.

Head of fund-raising Jim Edwards, who has been watching and playing matches at the club for more than 60 years, said: “We are over the moon with the new shirts and are really grateful to Jones Bros for agreeing to sponsor us. Without companies like Jones Bros we simply wouldn’t be able to survive.

“The shirts are great quality with the club name and Jones Bros name and logo embroidered on and look terrific on our young players. We are always keen for them to look smart when they are representing Caernarfon Town FC before and after matches, in the clubhouse and visiting away teams.

“We are a very well supported team, with 900 spectators at a recent match against Salford City. We are always aiming to take the club forward. It’s a labour of love for me as the club has always been such a big part of my life.”

Caernarfon Town FC, nicknamed the Canaries due to its yellow and green strip, is currently expanding its football academy launched to ensure that the best youngsters in the area are given an opportunity to develop their game, providing a pathway into the first team in the future.

Hefin Lloyd-Davies, Jones Bros’ regional manager for North Wales, said: “We are delighted to partner with Caernarfon Town FC in this way and are very proud to have our name on the young players’ shirts.

“The club has a long, illustrious history and does a great job in working with and inspiring young people in the Caernarfon area. We felt this partnership would be a great fit for us, as we too are passionate about providing opportunities for young people in North Wales through our apprenticeship and training schemes.

“We’ll be following the club’s progress with great interest, particularly the 16-18 teams.”

Founded in the 1950s and employing almost 350 people, Jones Bros has grown rapidly in the last decade. It is currently working on contracts in various sectors including the construction of waste management facilities, highways, flood and marine defence and renewable energy projects around the UK.
