US mattress innovator Casper opens UK operations in Paddington
Casper, the mattress brand which has attracted backing from the likes of Tobey Maguire and rapper Nas, has today (Wednesday) opened its UK operations from its Paddington base.
The firm, which was founded in New York in 2014, has developed a range of bed products, including mattresses, pillows and sheets, and has gained significant exposure owing to its celebrity backers and customer service standards.
It comes after the brand kicked off its European expansion with its launch in Germany, Switzerland and Austria in July.
Philip Krim, who is Casper co-founder and Chief Executive, commented that the launch of the firm’s UK arm has come as a result of high international demand for its range of sleep products.
He said: “Demand for Casper has been overwhelming. Our incredible and sustained growth in the first two years has led to significant consumer demand from around the world.
“We are continually looking for ways to further our mission of being the global leader in sleep innovation. We are excited about the opportunity to bring our award-winning customer experience and thoughtful design to the UK.”
Founded by a team of five entrepreneurs, the firm generated sales of $1m after just 28 days in business, and reached $100m in 2015.
Developing products out of its 15-strong technical team in San Francisco, the brand also has two showrooms New York City and Los Angeles.
The launch has been hailed by Gordon Innes, Chief Executive at London & Partners, as further proof of the attraction London poses for US firms looking to expand despite ongoing economic uncertainty surrounding the EU referendum.
Describing the US as London’s ‘leading market for foreign direct investment’, Innes also deemed tech-focused, innovative companies such as Casper as an ideal fit for the capital’s world-leading digital ecosystem.
He commented: “With an abundance of creative and tech talent and Europe’s largest technology hub, London is particularly attractive for innovative businesses such as Casper which are using technology to disrupt the market.
“We look forward to welcoming more businesses such as Casper to London as they are an important driver of jobs and growth for the capital’s economy.”
