Support Dogs is Sainsbury’s Charity of the Year

Sheffield-based charity Support Dogs has been chosen as Charity of the Year by five of Sainsbury’s Yorkshire and Lincolnshire based stores.

The Wadsley Bridge Superstore and Sainsbury’s Local stores at Crookes in Sheffield, Frenchgate in Doncaster, Spring Bank in Hull and Carholme Road in Lincoln will all hold fundraising events and activities throughout the year in aid of the assistance dog charity.

The activities started last weekend (5-7 August) at Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield, Frenchgate, Doncaster and Spring Bank in Hull.

Support Dogs trains and provides specialist assistance dogs to support children and adults with disabilities, autism and epilepsy.

Support Dogs was chosen as part of Sainsbury’s local Charity of the Year scheme. The charity was shortlisted by the five stores before being put to a public vote alongside two other local charities. The scheme was launched in 2009 and has raised more than £11million for charities across the UK.

Danny Anderson, fundraising manager at Support Dogs, said: “We are delighted that Support Dogs has been chosen as Sainsbury’s Charity of the Year in the five stores. We look forward to getting involved with some great fundraising activities over the course of the year to raise awareness of the charity whilst also having some fun.

“We are entirely funded through voluntary donations, therefore the generous support from Sainsbury’s and its customers will enable us to continue to make a very real difference to the lives of people living with some of the most challenging conditions.”
