Clock ticking for Solent’s developers

The clock is ticking for businesses and public sector organisations to submit their show-stopping developments into the Solent Design Awards.

Entries for the biennial event close on September 2 and judges are urging potential winners to stake their claim before it’s too late.

“We’ve seen some fantastic entries flooding in over the last few months but we know there are even more out there,” said Paul Ramshaw, from the Quality Places Practitioners’ Group which is organising the event. “Based on the way the Solent’s skyline has changed over the last two years there are a wealth of projects worthy of winning one of the coveted awards. The hardest part is going to be picking just one winner for each category.”

The Solent Design Awards recognise buildings that have transformed their surroundings, making a positive impact on people and places. Businesses and local authorities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are eligible to enter the following categories:

The Quality Residential Place Award– for the best residential scheme The People’s Choice Award – the project that receives the most online votes from the public The Quality Place Award – given to the best scheme in all categories, the Quality Place Award is open to any placemaking project, be it public or private sector and a single building or an entire development

Previous winners of the awards have included the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth, Ryde School on theIsle of Wight, Southampton’s SeaCity Museum and the St Alphege Learning & Teaching Building at the University of Winchester.

A wealth of local businesses have backed this year’s awards, which will take place at Southampton Solent University’s new Spark building.
