Online security firm Bullguard acquire Israeli IoT startup

London-based antivirus business Bullguard has announced the acquisition of Internet of Things (IoT) security firm Dojo Labs for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition sees the UK antivirus firm strengthen its IoT security offering, as the smart home technology market continues to grow with sales tipped to pass 9m this year in the UK alone.

Dojo Labs attracted column inches late last year for its pebble-shaped Dojo home security system which connects to a user’s home network and provides an added layer of security for any smart home connected devices.

The acquisition fits into Bullguard’s wider strategy of positioning itself into the burgeoning IoT market, the firm published a wide-ranging report in March that found that 72% of consumers surveyed did not know how to secure their connected devices, underlying the need for more consumer-focused IoT security products.

Paul Lipman, Bullguard’s Chief Executive said that both firm’s share a ‘common vision’ as IoT security moves into the mainstream.

He commented: “More than 4 billion consumer devices are connected to the internet today, and this number is growing exponentially. Until now, the security and privacy of these devices has been essentially non-existent, leaving our most precious data and possessions exposed.

“BullGuard and Dojo share a common vision for solving this critical market need, and for delivering the products our customers need to keep them safe.”

Yossi Atias, Dojo Labs co-founder, added: “The transformative promise of smart homes can only be truly realized once the security problem has been solved. I am delighted to be combining forces with BullGuard at this pivotal juncture in the evolution of our industry.”
