Wilmslow community group awarded £500 grant
Wilmslow community group Snow Angels has been awarded a £500 grant by Equilibrium Asset Management.
Set up to support elderly people from Cheshire, the group provides a network of volunteers, advice and social activities to help guard older people against social isolation.
The grant will fund a wider range of activities for Colshaw Farm in Wilmslow, one of the groups supported by Snow Angels, including arts and crafts, seated fitness classes and well-being sessions.
It will also be used to fund further support training for volunteers from Wilmslow High School who work with Snow Angels every year, as well as transport big enough to accommodate all group members for day trips.
Speaking about the grant, Lindsay Martin, project officer at Snow Angels said: “Receiving this grant will help us to focus on the improvement of health and well-being and encourage social interaction with older, more vulnerable people within our community.
’’This in turn will encourage participation in the planning process of activities for them, providing a forum for older people to voice their opinions in services provided.
’‘We are extremely grateful to Equilibrium for providing us with this opportunity.’’
Snow Angels is the first group to receive a grant since Equilibrium’s Wilmslow Community Support Scheme launched for 2016.
The scheme enables local charities and organisations to apply for grants to further support the work they are doing in the Wilmslow area.
Jason Lowe, partner & financial planner at Equilibrium Asset Management said: ’’Bringing vulnerable people together and advising them on topics such as how to keep warm in winter is a fantastic community project that we at Equilibrium are fully behind.
’‘When we received the application from Snow Angels and realised the group wanted to expand upon its activity and further training for young volunteers from Wilmslow High School, we were immediately keen to offer our help. We are thrilled that the group gives young people the opportunity to help the older generation and allows them to interact in a relaxed setting.’’
The Equilibrium Asset Management Wilmslow Community Support Scheme’s panel meet every other quarter to decide on the award of grants, ranging between £100 and £500 to community organisations and charities.
Applications for the fourth quarter of 2016 will open on 19 September. To apply visit http://eqllp.co.uk/the-foundation/wilmslow-community-support-scheme/
