Clarke Mairs LLP strengthens team with triple appointments
A North East law firm is welcoming a trio of solicitors to its team as part of its continued growth plans.
Clarke Mairs LLP, based in Newcastle city centre, has appointed consultant David Wilson, litigation solicitor Aimee Hubbard and trainee solicitor Joanne Rea to the firm.
The new recruits join the company as it marks two years since moving from Royal House on Market Street to larger, modern premises on Hood Street to support further expansion. Since the move, the firm has continued to grow its property, insolvency, company and commercial, employment and private client services.
The firm’s newest appointment is consultant David Wilson, whose legal career, specialising in commercial and corporate work, spans more than 40 years. David spent his early law career in London before moving to North East in the 1970s to work in ship finance. David worked in commercial and general corporate law at Eversheds for 23 years, where he became a partner and later a consultant, before moving to a consultancy role at Watson Burton. Prior to joining Clarke Mairs, David spent nine years as a partner and later a commercial and corporate consultant at BHP Law.
David, who lives near Hexham, said: “I’m delighted to be part of such a dynamic department at Clarke Mairs. There’s a lot of scope to build on the firm’s existing strong corporate and commercial services and I’m looking forward to broadening our offering for private companies.”
Clarke Mairs’ second new recruit is Aimee Hubbard, who specialises in commercial litigation. Aimee, originally from Ponteland, studied Law at Leicester University, including a year at Strasbourg University where she read French Law and assisted a Member of the European Parliament. Aimee holds an LLM in International Trade from Newcastle University and taught English in China before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in York. Upon graduation, Aimee worked in London for five years and moved to PDT Solicitors in Horsham, West Sussex, specialising in commercial litigation, before returning to the North East where she spent six years at Muckle, followed by a two year spell at BHP Law.
Aimee said: “Clarke Mairs is a thriving city centre firm with a friendly team and a strong emphasis on commercial work. I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to further develop the commercial litigation arm of the company and to build relationships with a wide range of new clients.”
Thirdly, Joanne Rea, formerly a paralegal at Clarke Mairs, has been offered a trainee solicitor position and will work in each department during her two-year training contract. Joanne, who holds a degree in English Language and Linguistics from York University, undertook her legal studies at Northumbria University and has worked with a range of local firms since graduating, with a focus on conveyancing.
Joanne, from Ovingham, said: “Since joining Clarke Mairs as a paralegal, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed learning from such a friendly group of people with a diverse range of skills and strengths. There’s an open plan environment and I’ve always found that everyone is approachable, helpful, and happy to offer guidance.
“I’m thrilled be provided with the opportunity to continue working at Clarke Mairs in a trainee solicitor role, and I’m looking forward to building my experience and knowledge in a broad spectrum of areas over the next two years – especially in leasehold enfranchisement, which I have a particular interest in.”
Tim Clarke, senior partner at Clarke Mairs, said: “David and Aimee are both highly skilled specialists who have vast experience in the commercial and corporate legal world, and we have no doubt that they will be invaluable assets to our growing team. We are also delighted to offer Joanne a training contract with us following her time supporting our team in a paralegal role. All three individuals have the character that we look for in our new recruits, in order to work well within our firm and grow long term relationships with our clients.”
Clarke Mairs offers legal services to businesses and individuals nationwide. It is ranked in the Legal 500 and is LEXCEL accredited through the Law Society.
