StreetVelodrome will launch as part of Leigh’s Wellfest celebrations

StreetVelodrome to bring Olympic spirit to Wigan

The StreetVelodrome Company Ltd, the firm behind the pop-up velodrome concept, is bringing its track to Wigan next month.

The cycling circuit will launch in Leigh’s Pennington Flash park as part of the town’s Wellfest celebrations, which are organised by Wigan-based social enterprise Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles.

Set to be held from September 9 to 11, Wellfest is sponsored by property designer NPS, fintech company DFC Direct Debit Services, facility development firm Alliance Leisure, housing association Wigan and Leigh Homes, Stephensons Solicitors and Link Contracting.

Carl Thompson, director of the StreetVelodrome Series, which was previously broadcast on BT Sport, said: “Cycle sport is vibrant in the area which should see some great cycling talent on track, but we’re also reaching out to those new to the sport to come and enjoy the fun and to take part for free.”

Paul Jones, the operations director of Wellfest sponsor NPS Group, said: “For us, making a positive impact as a business in Wigan goes way beyond the buildings we design, manage and maintain.

“NPS always values innovative ways of doing things - and this is certainly true of the Street Velodrome as a different but exciting way to enjoy cycling.”

He added: “We have a team of staff excited to be taking part and hope there will be many more people joining us.”
