Work begins on MediaCityUK Alchemist bar
Construction work is now underway on The Alchemist at MediaCityUK.
Building firm Artez Group this week (August 22) broke ground on the £1.7m development located on the bridge linking MediaCityUK with The Lowry theatre and gallery complex.
The Alchemist, a cocktail bar and restaurant concept owned by leisure operator Living Ventures, comprises a network of sites across Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham and London.
Artez Group’s managing director, Mike Banton, said: “The building is a stunning design so we’re incredibly proud to be working on what I’m certain will become an iconic landmark in the area.
“We’re looking forward to transforming this piece of land – formerly the location of the sales office for developments – into the region’s next go-to night spot.”
Manchester-based Reid Architects designed the project, which externally will feature a gold-clad roof and walls, along with a terrace looking out over the canal offering al fresco drinks and dining space.
Stephen Wild, managing director of MediaCityUK, a joint venture between the investment firms Peel Land & Property Group and Legal & General Capital, commented: “MediaCityUK is continuing to grow as a destination, with a fantastic range of bars and eateries, as well as tourist attractions and major events that pull in big crowds.
“With this in mind, we are very much looking forward to adding The Alchemist – an iconic and highly popular brand – into the mix.”
He added: “The news of its arrival has been met with wholehearted enthusiasm and delight by MediaCityUK residents and visitors alike. We are pleased to be working with Artez to deliver this exciting project.”
The Alchemist at MediaCityUK is due for completion in Spring 2017.
Simon Potts, managing director of The Alchemist, said he and his team are “hugely excited” that work on the restaurant has started.
He continued: “It promises to be a popular addition to, what is now, a vibrant area for both work and play.
“The building itself will definitely make a statement, with some remarkable bespoke features. We believe it will become a truly iconic building in time.”
