Early Years Specialist shortlisted for national award

A Bristol early years specialist has been shortlisted as one of only five contenders for the Regional Manager of the Year Award at the prestigious national Nursery World awards.

Catherine Denyer, a regional manager for Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-School, joined the group in 2013 as a Nursery Manager responsible for overseeing the opening of a new nursery. In just three years she has risen to the position of Regional Manager, responsible for 12 of the group’s 22 settings.

Kerry Sturmey of Mama Bear’s Day Nursery put Catherine forward for the award. She said: “Catherine really is a unique individual! She achieves excellent outcomes, nothing is too much trouble and she takes everything cheerfully in her stride.

“I am thrilled to see all her hard work being rewarded in this nomination and I look forward to continuing to work with her to make Mama Bear’s a nurturing and stimulating environment for children.

“Catherine is highly trained in all areas of advanced child care. She has taken, among others, the Terry Gilligan speech and Language training course, demonstrating the best way to teach children who suffer from autism, aural dyspraxia and Tourette’s.

“Catherine sees the potential in everyone and one of her key strengths is in the personal development of all staff.

“She has helped create and deliver many training courses to her Bristol teams, designed to ensure that Mama Bear’s staff deliver the best care possible to the children they teach and look after.”

Mama Bear’s has also been shortlisted for Nursery World’s ‘Working with Parents Award’ for its dedication to supporting parents and helping them understand their children’s early development.

The Nursery World Awards is the most prestigious event in the early years’ calendar with entrants from all across the country, and a gala dinner and awards presentation in September for the winners.
