North East charity on a roll

A Newcastle charity is feeling flush after receiving a major donation from tissue manufacturer SCA Hygiene.

With 200 unpaid volunteers providing ‘food and friendship’ to the city’s homeless and most disadvantaged members of society, The People’s Kitchen is heavily dependent on donations from regional businesses of cash, food and catering products.

SCA Prudhoe Mill answered the call with a van full of its Velvet toilet rolls and household towel to be used by the charity – that has transformed thousands of lives since it was founded in 1985 and recently received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Cath Frost of SCA’s charity committee said: “All of us at Prudhoe Mill have been inspired by the work carried out by the team of volunteers at The People’s Kitchen and are delighted that by donating personal hygiene and cleaning products we are able to make a difference.

“This is the third donation we have made to the charity since being introduced to them by our local MP Guy Opperman, and we are proud to have them as one of our adopted charities.”
