Liverpool site ‘badly in need of regeneration’ to become eight-storey resi scheme

A development in central Liverpool that will deliver a mix of apart-hotel rooms and student accommodation has been given the go-ahead by Liverpool City Council.

The plans, from the property arm of London-based real estate and finance group Niveda, will create three new city centre buildings on a site fronting Oldham Place, Benson Street and Back Renshaw Street.

Designed by Liverpool architects Falconer Chester Hall, the scheme will see an existing building demolished to make way for two blocks of eight storeys and another of six.

In total, the buildings will house 52 serviced apartments and 320 student accommodation units across 28 self-contained studio flats and 34 clustered rooms with communal facilities.

The student accommodation will be located in one of the eight-storey blocks and include a gym, games room and cinema, while the two apart-hotel blocks will include ground-level commercial units.

The managing director of Falconer Chester Hall, Adam Hall, said: “We are delighted to have secured permission for this scheme on a site badly in need of regeneration.

“The city’s leisure offer continues to attract more and more visitors and it’s important that there are the rooms to cater for this growing market.”

He continued: “Additionally, the proposed student accommodation is close to the city’s Knowledge Quarter so within easy reach for the expected occupiers.”

The three buildings will be surrounded by hard and soft landscaping with outdoor seating and newly planted trees.
