Dance talent auditions for new BTEC course
10 September 2016 Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, University of Sussex
Local dance charity South East Dance has developed a unique dance curriculum that will be delivered by danceexperts and specialists in their field. The organisation has worked closely with the Brighton and Portslade Aldridge Community Academies to open the Aldridge South East Dance Academy. They are looking for talented male and female dancers aged 14-18 years old to attend a special Dance Talent Workshop on Saturday 10 September at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, University of Sussex.
The contemporary dance workshop will run from 11am-1pm and will be led by three professional dance artists. The day will also be a chance for attendees to audition for the new sixth form BTEC National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance), which will launch at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy on Monday 19 September. Students wishing to enrol on the new BTEC course will need to attend the workshop on Saturday 10 September to secure their place.
The BTEC has been designed for students who are keen to explore careers in the performing arts. The sixth-formers will be able to choose from a wide range of disciplines to study, including contemporary, jazz, ballet, tap, musical theatre, urban and street dance. The partnership between South East Dance and the Aldridge Academies has developed with the support of Sir Rod Aldridge, local businessman and chair of the Academies’ sponsor the Aldridge Foundation.
Sir Rod Aldridge said: “I am very excited that through this partnership with South East Dance, BACA and PACA will be able to offer career opportunities to young dancers that will be unique in state education in Sussex. Both Academies have already developed a model for sixth form students to study academic qualifications alongside professional skills and fitness coaching that has proved highly successful with the Aldridge Cricket Academy - a partnership with Sussex County Cricket Club.
