Wrexham-based logistics firm wins contract to transport hazardous materials
An award-winning logistics firm has invested £200,000 after winning the contract to deliver hazardous materials in the SY and TF postcodes.
Ningbo Palletised Distribution has joined the Hazchem Network, which has 70 members nationwide, and the success has resulted in the appointment of five new members of staff.
The firm, which has bases in Overton, Wrexham, and Malpas, has spent £50,000 upgrading infrastructure, adding 5,000sq ft. to its site on the Wrexham Industrial Estate, creating a separate entrance and exit on site and a new loading canopy to handle the hazardous materials.
Ningbo has also invested £8,000 in new software, bought three new ADR (accord dangereux routier) vehicles, and upgraded seven of its fleet to the same standards. Nine drivers have also been given specialist ADR training, and the company has also recruited a dangerous goods safety adviser to assist.
ADR is a 1957 United Nations treaty which governs transport of hazardous materials in Europe.
Ningbo’s managing director, Chris Stockton, said: “We’ve been working incredibly hard for months to ensure we could operate at ADR standards in order to deliver hazardous materials.
“A big selling point we were able to offer is that we guarantee next day delivery by midday, whether it’s in Shrewsbury or Aberystwyth”.
“Joining the Hazchem Network and investing in the infrastructure to deliver hazardous materials were key objectives for us this year and we’ve accomplished them.”
The Hazchem Network’s managing director, Ali Karim, said: “Firms transporting hazardous material have to undergo an onsite audit and checks. Ningbo passed with flying colours.
“Chris and the team at Ningbo clearly have a passion for offering a professional distribution service and we’re pleased to welcome them to our network and look forward to working closely with them in the future.”
Ningbo, which was formed in 1993, also offers a next day pallet delivery and collection service throughout the UK for normal goods, and is part of both the UPN and Palletline networks
It employs 38 members of staff and has a fleet of 23 lorries, 14 additional trailers and four vans. In addition to the UK, it delivers to all of Europe, and guarantees 48-hour service to Ireland.
It also offers businesses the option of pallet storage, pick and pack, and container unloading with a bespoke fully tracked and traced warehouse system.
Ningbo Palletised Distribution is part of the Ningbo Group. Chris’ other businesses include Ningbo Furniture, a supplier of contract furniture.
