Former Merseyside chief inspector joins Liverpool BID
Liverpool BID Company has appointed a former Merseyside Police chief as part of a £3m drive to improve safety and the environment within the city’s bustling retail and commercial areas.
Taking on the newly created role of head of operations, ex-cop Shaun Holland will be responsible for both BID ambassadors and BID-funded police officers who tackle crime and antisocial behavior within Liverpool’s Commercial District and City Central BID area.
Shaun has served for the last five years as the chief inspector of operations with Merseyside Police – a position that saw him liaising with local businesses and partner agencies to improve safety in the city centre.
Environment and safety issues are addressed in Liverpool BID Company’s five-year, £4m masterplan approved earlier this year.
As part of the strategy more than £1.2m will be spent on improving safety and cleanliness in the Commercial District, while £1.9m will be invested in the City Central BID area.
Shaun, whose career in the police force spans three decades, said of his new role: “From my time working with Merseyside Police worked closely with the team at the Liverpool BID and gathered a vast knowledge of the people and organisations in the city centre.
“Over the last 18 months, Liverpool BID Company has increased its efforts across both BIDs to ensure that Liverpool remains a clean and safe place to live, work and visit.”
He added: “As head of operations, I hope to be able to really drive this forward and help the BID deliver on the promises made in the business plans.”
Liverpool BID Company chief exec Bill Addy commented: “One of our top priorities is to improve levels of safety and the overall environment in our BID districts and the creation of the head of operations role is key to helping us achieve this.
“The implementation of the street caretakers, ambassadors and police officers has made a big difference already but we want to ensure that the level of service remains high.”
Bill continued: “The appointment of Shaun, who has substantial experience in this area, will allow us to achieve this as well as develop new projects to help us to continuously improve.”
