North east set for capital gains
The north east is gearing up to welcome the great and good of serviced apartments this October, thanks to one Newcastle based provider.
Week2Week serviced apartments, whose office is set on the city’s Northumberland Road are to host the latest networking event from trade body the Association of Serviced Apartment Providers (ASAP) at the Factory Kitchen in the Biscuit Factory on Stoddart Street, Shieldfield on Thursday October 13.
The event will see serviced apartment professionals travel to Newcastle from across the country including the capital, London, where the industry makes up 6% of all accommodation in the city.
Claire Parry, director at Week2Week says its exciting news: “This is the first time that this networking event has been held in the city, and we are absolutely delighted to have been afforded the opportunity to host.
“It’s great to think that we will be able to show the best of the region to people who may never have been to the area before. Hopefully we can show those from around the country what we have to offer, and from a business point of view encourage businesses to see Newcastle is a great place to operate.”
Members of ASAP come together regularly in order to discuss the changes within the industry, new legislation and to network with other senior professionals in the industry.
Claire says it’s a great opportunity for the serviced apartment professionals to show the visitors what a great, cosmopolitan and forward-thinking city Newcastle really is.
“A lot of people attending are members of ASAP, but the event is also open to serviced apartment operator and agents who would like to attend and hopefully we will all be able to trade tips and make some good contacts and be in a position to continue promoting not just ourselves and the industry but the city we are so proud to call home.”
The event comes toward the end of a standout year for the serviced apartment industry which has seen people move away from traditional hotel stays for businesses with Savills suggesting an 8.4% growth in supply by the end of 2017 – an increase which would see the sector becoming the UK’s fastest growing hospitality sector.
The forecast has not gone unnoticed by Claire, who says she has noticed a shift in the attitudes of travellers.
“We’ve definitely noticed more people favouring fully serviced apartments over hotels. Even just from talking to people, they remark on the extra space and privacy they get that they wouldn’t in a hotel.”
The networking event is the first to be held in Newcastle, and comes prior to the ASAP Gala Dinner and Annual awards evening on November 30 which precludes the Annual Convention on December 1.
