Unsung Hero Award Celebrates Non-Medical NHS Staff

GoToJobBoard is about to begin its yearly Unsung Hero Award. As a result, they want people to nominate non-medical NHS staff that deserve more recognition for their work with colleagues and patients.

Since 2014, Manchester based GoToJobBoard has been running the Unsung Hero Award. The nationwide initiative is all about celebrating non-medical workers whose work might otherwise go unnoticed.

Mark Cherry of GoToJobBoard said: “Without them [non-medical NHS staff] there would be no National Health Service, so it is important to recognise and reward their hard work on a national scale, and that is what the awards are all about.”

Mark believes the third annual GoToJobBoard’s Unsung Hero Award will be bigger than ever. In a change to previous campaigns, nominees will be invited to a special award ceremony in Manchester with winners being announced at the event.

This year, the event will take place on 3 February 2017 at The Place Hotel in Manchester city centre.

Three winners were chosen in 2016 –

Enid Dunn, who happens to be Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton’s mother, won for her work volunteering at Bolton NHS Foundation;

Rehanah Sadiq, Senior Muslim Chaplain at Birmingham Women’s Hospital, nominated for supporting patients going through challenging times;

James Long, Facilities and Patients Manager at St Pancras Hospital, nominated for improving the day-to-day lives of seriously ill patients.

Overall, the NHS’s workforce is made up of 49 per cent non-medical staff. Roles include healthcare assistants, ambulance drivers and clerical workers and many others. All of these people and the roles they perform are vital to the smooth running of the NHS.

Nominations are being accepted from 1 October 2016 using the form on the GoToJobBoard Unsung Hero Award page, or they can be sent to unsunghero@gotojobboard.com.

People are also encouraged to get involved on social media using the #NHSUnsungHero hashtag.
