West Yorkshire's Filtronic returns to profitability as revenues rise

Filtronic plc, the designer and manufacturer of microwave electronics products for the wireless telecoms infrastructure market and adjacent markets, has reported a strong period of trade for the three months ending 31st August 2016.

The Yeadon-based company saw revenues significantly rise to £11.7m, from £2.2m at the same period last year.

This increase has resulted in Filtronic returning to profitability with an operating profit of £1m (2015: £2.0m operating loss). The net cash balance at the quarter end was also £900k.

Filtronic’s improved financial results were spearheaded by the sales of its new ultra-wide band integrated antennas to the company’s lead customer. The increase in demand for its mmWave backhaul products and base station filters also played a significant role.

In addition, Filtronic Wireless recently recruited experienced senior sales executives in Europe and North America to target opportunities with mobile network operators.

Filtronic Wireless continues to build and develop its product portfolio to address opportunities available in the market and will be releasing further antenna variants that support the new frequencies being released in the US (600MHz) and Europe (1400MHz).

Filtronic Broadband meanwhile continues to see steady growth in sales of Orpheus, its latest generation E-band transceiver, with demand at the company’s lead customer continuing to increase.
