30 jobs created in Ardwick as architects Condy Lofthouse complete Tesito House

Liverpool architects Condy Lofthouse has completed work on a £4m treatment and recovery centre in Manchester.

Located in the Ardwick area, Tesito House has created over 30 jobs and will be operated by health and social care charity Alternative Futures Group (AFG).

The site was developed to provide a recovery-led therapeutic service and space for vulnerable women.

Condy Lofthouse’s Greg Phillips explained that the building has been designed to capture as much natural light as possible. Bolton-based building firm Seddon constructed the scheme.

Greg said: “Lots of natural light has been proven to have beneficial behavioural and therapeutic outcomes for residents.

“We’ve arranged the size and location of the windows and doors to take advantage of this. The clerestory glazing to lounges and extra corridor rooflights boost light penetration and create a cheerful but calming place.”

Predominantly single storey, Tesito House is arranged around a series of enclosed and open garden courtyards to form small living groups.

The entrance area includes two-storey accommodation and a double-height atrium space.

Alternative Futures Group’s MD, Karen Wilson, commented: “Strong partnership working has been instrumental in delivering a first class recovery-orientated mental health treatment centre in the heart of the Ardwick community with the feel of a truly therapeutic environment.
