TyneMet students impress at Fifth Fusiliers Open Day

TyneMet Uniformed Services students were invited to attend an open day for the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers at their Battalion Headquarters on the Quayside in September.

The students were up and at it facing an Assault Course Challenge, where they impressed the crowds by demonstrating their finesse. They took part in several activites against local colleges and cadet forces.

Our students were up against others from Bishop Auckland College, Newcastle College and two cadet teams. Thanks to their sheer grit and determindation, TyneMet students finished in second place!

Marc Donkin, Uniformed Services teacher at TyneMet said: “The day was a great success giving the students an invaluable insight into different roles available within the Army. This event contributed to build upon strong links already made with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and was throughouly enjoyed by all the students who attended.”

The Assault Course Challenge included exercises such as mud crawl nets, under/over bars and rock climbing, which all contributes towards their training they recieve at TyneMet in preparation to join the Public Services.
