Gloucestershire children’s charity to benefit from £1,000 donation

A Cheltenham couple who took part in a 100km walk in aid of a children’s charity have been awarded £1,000 by Persimmon Homes.

Franeen McDonald and her husband Gary McDonald, completed the Thames Path Challenge which is a walk along the river from Putney Bridge in west London to Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire.

They were doing it in aid of Gloucestershire charity the Pied Piper Appeal which helps sick and disabled children in the county.

Mr and Mrs McDonald were awarded the money via Persimmon Homes Community Champion initiative. It is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match cash they have already raised themselves.

Mrs McDonald said: “The Pied Piper Appeal is the leading children’s charity in Gloucestershire and was founded in 1992.

“Their aim is to transform the lives of sick and disabled children in the county. They do this by funding medical and practical equipment that enhances care and treatment for children in hospital. They also provide support and equipment that can transform the lives of sick and disabled children at home and in the local community.

“We took on the Thames Path Challenge to raise funds for what is an essential service to Gloucestershire and we’re thankful for Persimmon Homes’ donation.”

Nicola Hill, sales and marketing director of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, added: “Congratulations to Franeen and Gary on the 100km walk – it is a fantastic achievement.

“We wanted to help their cause of raising money for the Pied Piper Appeal and we’re proud to contribute £1,000 to their efforts. The charity do so much work for the community and we felt it was important to support their service.”
