Anne-Mary Wins Top Award

A LIBRARIAN at Leeds College of Building has been named ‘Mentor of the Year’ at a prestigious national awards ceremony, in recognition of her supporting the career progression of other librarians throughout the region.

Anne-Mary Inglehearn was presented with the award by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), which is the leading professional body for librarians, information specialists and knowledge managers, at a ceremony at Leeds City Museum.

She has worked at Leeds College of Building for 12 years and is now the College’s Learning Resource Manager. In recent years she has mentored six librarians, from a range of backgrounds including further education, higher education, public libraries and libraries within law firms, who have successfully achieved chartered and certified status with CILIP.

Anne-Mary says: “It’s a huge privilege to win this award. Mentoring other librarians is something I first started doing eight years ago and I find it extremely rewarding. I learn a great deal from it and it’s interesting to find out about the people I mentor and the work they do across all areas of the library profession. To receive an award for something that I really enjoy doing is fantastic.”

Anne-Mary was nominated by Jessica Haigh, who she mentored earlier this year. Jessica, who works as a Subject Librarian at Huddersfield University, says: “As a member of the local library community, Anne-Mary is always looking for ways to support and enhance the community of practice, and is a great library manager, mentor and voice in our sector. It is people like Anne-Mary that really make FE libraries beacons of good practice, which need shouting about more.”

Nick Poole, CILIP Chief Executive, adds: “From a very high calibre of nominees, it’s our privilege to name Anne-Mary Inglehearn CILIP’s Mentor of the Year. The practical and uplifting support she provides to mentees makes a genuine difference to their careers, and her time and knowledge is equally shared with the local FE library community. Our thanks and congratulations to Anne-Mary.”

Leeds College of Building’s library houses more than 18,000 books related to the courses on offer as well as a wide range of fiction, graphic and quick read books.
