Revealed: New £48m tower planned for Liverpool’s Princes Dock
Housing provider Your Housing Group (YHG) has unveiled plans to create a new 30-storey tower on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront.
The £48m development will create 276 apartments at Princes Dock as part of a major push from YHG into the build-to-rent market.
The scheme, located within Peel Group’s £5.5bn Liverpool Waters development, will be YHG’s first build-to-rent project in Merseyside and its third overall.
Known as Hive–City Docks, the development will be marketed under the company’s PRS brand Hive.
YHG’s executive director, Stephen Haigh, said the scheme is evidence of the firm’s commitment to Liverpool as a strategic growth area.
Stephen said: “Hive– City Docks is a hugely exciting and innovative project for us and our Hive brand.
“Following the successful launch of our Hive brand earlier this year, we have completed our first development comprising of 106 homes, all for the build to rent sector.”
He continued: “Hive-City Docks is our first development in the heart of a city and it shows the versatility of our offer.
“We have an active pipeline of further developments and are looking forward to bringing many more Hive products to the market very soon.”
Joe Anderson, the Mayor of Liverpool, commented: “High quality housing is essential for economic growth.
“Developments like this, in a stunning waterfront location, are crucial if we are to attract and retain the kind of talent which will fuel that growth.”
He added: “Your Housing Group’s commitment to Liverpool has already resulted in transformational improvements in the north of the city and I am delighted to see the organisation extend its activity to the city centre with this scheme.”
Lindsey Ashworth, Peel’s development director, said Hive – City Docks represents a “major milestone” in its mission to create a stunning waterfront for Liverpool offering a vibrant place to live, work and visit.
He added: “There is now significant momentum behind our plans as investors realise the potential and opportunity which this site offers.”
Citizen Living and law firm Shulmans advised YHG on the development, which is designed by Liverpool-based architects Brock Carmichael.
Subject to planning consent, construction work is due to begin in 2017 and take 24 months to complete
