PHEV-ER in Their Caps
The Vital Energi fleet recently celebrated a landmark moment when its Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) clocked up a million miles of driving, many of which were powered by the solar charging system at their Blackburn Headquarters.
Vital Energi have been a long-standing supporter of hybrid vehicles and are delighted that they now account for over 50% of the cars in their fleet. Overall, Vital Energi’s fleet of Hybrid vehicles have driven over two million miles, with half of that accounted for by PHEVs.
Fleet Manager for Vital Energi, Paul Carberry explains, “We are aware that, as a company with a reputation for helping clients reduce their energy use and generate cleaner heat and power, people look to us to set an example for sustainability and this is just one of the ways we’re looking to reduce our impact on the environment. We already embrace video conferencing and actively promote the use of public transport and car sharing and we will continue to explore ways to improve our fleet and lower emissions going forward.”
Where possible, Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles are allocated to members of staff who complete the majority of their commute in electric mode, maximising the environmental benefits.
Vital Energi’s efforts to reduce emissions from its fleet were recognised when it was named a finalist in the GreenFleet Awards and this year they joined the Go Ultra Low initiative which is designed to encourage more drivers to switch to electric vehicles.
