Urban Splash completes hoUSe project and plots second New Islington apartment scheme

Regeneration firm Urban Splash has completed all 43 units at its hoUSe development in New Islington, Manchester.

All of the homes are now occupied, having been sold ahead of their 2015 launch.

The modular family properties, designed by Liverpool architects shedkm, allowed customers to choose the size and layout of their home.

The scheme’s 1,000 sq ft base model launched at a value of £200k, but demand has since driven that figure up. More recent sales have reached £275k.

Guy Ackernley, the head of residential sales at Urban Splash, said: “hoUSe caught the attentions of customers in Manchester for two reasons; one because it is a head-turning concept that gave the generation of Grand Designs fans control of their layout, but secondly because there’s long been an appetite for some form of family home in the city centre.”

Now, Urban Splash is seeking planning consent for the shedkm-designed Mansion hoUSe, another modular New Islington development comprising 84 apartments.

Subject to planning permission, the project will create clusters of two-bed homes next to hoUSe, across from New Islington Marina.

Shedkm director Ian Killick commented: “We’re delighted to see the hoUSe project completed at New Islington and to continue working with Urban Splash with the submission of Mansion hoUSe.

“We believe that these schemes are game changers, which can tackle the current housing shortage this country is facing. They also happen to be homes that people are proud to live in.”

A decision on Mansion hoUSe is expected later this year.
