Georgia’s Himalayan trek for hospice

A business development and marketing executive from Southampton has completed a four-day trek in the Indian Himalayas to raise money for the Countess Mountbatten Hospice Charity (CMHC).

Georgia Harding, from Southampton law firm Clarke Willmott LLP, has raised over £3500 for the local charity with help from Clarke Willmott, which has chosen CMHC as its nominated office charity.

The trip, organised by the hospice charity, included the four-day trek in the Indian Himalayas as well as a two-day project where Georgia and the 11 other participants helped at CanKids, a non-profit project in Delhi which supports local people and their families who are living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

Georgia said: “Taking part in the trek was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I absolutely loved the whole experience. Not only did we raise over £28,000 altogether for CMHC, we also made a real difference at CanKids in Delhi where we decorated the facility for two days.

“CMHC has been our office charity for the past three and a half years and we’ve raised funds with bake sales, dress down days and car boot sales as well as my trek and other fundraisers.

“The charity supports the Countess Mountbatten Hospice, which delivers end of life care to those with terminal illnesses, both in the hospice and in the community. The charity raises money to provide things over and above what the NHS can, including a drinks trolley which comes round twice daily so patients can have their favourite tipple, beds for overnight visitors, pain relieving mattresses and holistic therapies as well as granting last requests, such as weddings and visits from celebrities or beloved pets.

“It’s a fantastic charity and everyone at Clarke Willmott is committed to raising as much as we possibly can for the cause.”

In the past employees at Clarke Willmott have raised money for Countess Mountbatten Hospice by swimming from the Isle of Wight to Portsmouth, running the Southampton Half Marathon and completing the Southampton 10k, as well as hosting various other fundraisers.

Georgia continued: “I would encourage anyone wanting a new and exciting challenge to take part in something different. We saw some incredible things and raised vital funds for a worthy cause.”
