Volunteering Work Helps out in Goole
Goldcrest House service users embrace volunteering at the gardening services charity, The Green Team, to maintain the gardens of the elderly and disabled in Goole who are unable to do so themselves.
One such service user currently volunteering is Jonathan. Jonathan is a garden maintenance volunteer tending to domestic garden maintenance, such as pruning, lawn mowing and leaf clearance across the charity’s 350 customer base.
Cheryl Price, Volunteer Lead at The Green Team says: “Jonathan is an established member of our team and he is a pleasure to work with. He has developed significantly whilst he has been with us, particularly with his communication.
Without our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to fulfill our mission of improving the quality of life for people by reducing their stress through enabling their enjoyment of their gardens, supporting their safety and independence.“
Ralph Parish, registered manager at Goldcrest House says: “Jonathan loves his work with The Green Team, gardening is one of his passions. With thanks to The Green Team Jonathan benefits from learning new skills and taking part in something he loves whilst building his self-confidence and independence through helping others.”
The Green Team is a registered charity providing volunteering opportunities to local people and who offer a low cost gardening service to older and disabled people living in Goole and the surrounding area.
Based on Boothferry Road Goldcrest House is a centre of excellence dedicated to addressing the individual needs of adults over 18 affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorder and learning difficulties. It provides residential care, supported living, long and short term respite care, day services and outreach to meet the varied needs of those who access the service 52 weeks a year; its aim is to be the UK’s quality service of choice.
