A new era for Northern Tea Merchants café
Introducing The Pekoe Café at Northern Tea Merchants
Northern Tea Merchants’ iconic shop and café based on Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, has seen an exciting relaunch.
The café has undergone a refurbishment programme and has been relaunched as The Pekoe Café at Northern Tea Merchants.
The new-look café is being run and managed by Tracey Wallis who has been licensed to use the Northern Tea Merchants’ brand, in what is a new chapter in the tearoom’s history.
The shop and café first opened in 2003 and was born out of the original tea and coffee tasting room established in 1993 for Northern Tea Merchants’ retail and commercial customers to sample its products.
James Pogson, director of Northern Tea Merchants said of the new venture: “Northern Tea Merchants’ shop and café are well-known in Chesterfield. In spite of the cafés previous popularity we felt it was time to move things forward and further enhance the tearooms offering.
“We are delighted to provide an opportunity to an outstanding local professional and I am confident that Tracey is the right person to showcase the café, to both new as well as existing customers. This is a very exciting time for Northern Tea Merchants.”
Tracey Wallis, owner of The Pekoe Cafe enthused: “I’ve always loved the hospitality business. I enjoy meeting different people and I love food, so have long dreamed about owning a café with the belief that this would be the best combination of all these passions.
“I have known James Pogson for a while and have always admired his business acumen, alongside his amazing knowledge of tea and coffee. When an opportunity presented itself to work alongside such a well-established and respected brand as Northern Tea Merchants it was too good to miss.
“My aim at The Pekoe Café is to offer simple, delicious food and drink with excellent customer service in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.”
The Pekoe Café’s new menu includes longstanding breakfast favorites such as toasted tea cakes, bacon sandwiches, croissants and authentic French baguettes. Whilst jacket potatoes, home-made soups and sandwiches will be served at lunchtime as well as a selection of cakes, pastries and afternoon tea, complimented by the most extensive selection of teas and freshly ground coffee for miles around.
