General Manager celebrates 25 years at Hollins Hall

Hollins Hall Marriott Hotel & Country Club’s General Manager, Tom Orange, is this month celebrating 25 years working for the leading hotel company.

Tom, who began his hospitality career by accident as a graduate trainee, after dreaming of becoming an airline pilot growing up, has worked in a variety of roles across a number of northern Marriott properties.

After becoming General Manager of the Aberdeen property at just 29, Tom moved to Manchester where he was responsible for the opening of the V&A Marriott Hotel, before moving to Yorkshire, where he now oversees both Hollins Hall and Leeds Marriott Hotel.

Talking about his 25 years of service, Tom reflects: “Despite dreaming of a career in the skies, I am so thankful I accepted the graduate role all those years ago. Working in hospitality is great fun, everyday is different and you get to work with and meet people from all walks of life.”

With his extensive experience Tom predicts there will be some major changes to the industry in the next 25 years, as he comments: “The industry has totally modernised in recent years and this is only going to continue – potentially changing the face of hotel stays. In my experience it has relaxed, in terms of service, it isn’t as formal as it used to be. But the biggest changes are all thanks to technology.

“People now want quick, efficient, no fuss service, and technology improvements – with the likes of digital check-ins and online booking systems – are allowing us to provide this, while still offering a high level personal service when needed.”
