York Business Networking Group Marks £1m of Referrals

A York business networking group has achieved a major milestone by referring £1m worth of businesses annually between its members.

The milestone has been achieved by Business Network International (BNI) Knavesmire Networking Group, which meets weekly at Novotel, Fishergate, York.

To mark the milestone, the networking group, which was established in 2003 and has 26 members, received a visit from York City Council leader, David Carr, who wanted to see how business generation happens at grassroots level in the city.

After the business conducted at the meeting, councillor Carr, discussed York City Council’s funding and budgets and what the local authority does to support local commerce. He then chatted with members from businesses in business sectors including traditional trades, web design, legal, financial, property, printing, training, utility supply, coaching, vehicle leasing and food and drink.

Councillor David Carr (Con, Copmanthorpe) says: “I was delighted to be invited to meet BNI Knavesmire and to see the enthusiasm and friendly support underpinning the great work this business networking group achieves. York’s small and medium-sized enterprises are a vital part of the city’s economy and by sharing challenges and opportunities for new business, networking groups like this one play a key role in sustaining growth in the local economy.”

President of BNI Knavesmire Group and director of EweMove York, Nick Neill, says: “ A great deal is rightly heard about large business bodies, such as the CBI or British Chambers of Commerce, but less about organisations which support small enterprises and we were thrilled that councillor Carr found time in his busy schedule to take an interest in how small businesses support each other in the city.“

BNI is the largest networking organisation the world with 204,000 members in 67 countries, generating over £6bn in referred business.
