The season to be carolling at intu Metrocentre
Calling all choirs! Registration is now open for intu Metrocentre’s Christmas Choir Competition 2016 and this year there’s an extra incentive for choirs to wow the crowds as the lucky winning choir will walk away with a £500 intu Gift Card.
The contest is open to choirs from schools and singing groups across the north east, who will be free to raise funds for their chosen charity while performing to visitors, friends and family in the shopping centre. Choirs will be allocated a 50 minute time slot to perform in Exhibition Square, near Primark, from Monday 12 December to Thursday 15 December.
An esteemed judging panel will be scoring the performances in the following four categories – the festive appearance of the choir, singing talent, enthusiasm and the Xtra factor.
Judges will be observing and scoring the first two songs only – one of which must be ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ to allow for a fair comparison with other entrants. Creativity is encouraged so fun, unique interpretations, or modern twists on old favourites, may well earn choirs a valuable extra point or two!
The six choirs with the highest scores will be announced on the evening of Thursday 15 December and invited back to perform in the final on Friday 16 December from 10 am – 11.30 am, when the overall winner of the Christmas Choir Competition will be announced.
Runners-up prizes of a £250 intu Gift Card and a £150 intu Gift Card will be given to second and third place choirs respectively.
Any choirs that would like to register their interest should contact intu Metrocentre by email at metrocentre.information@intu.co.uk
Gavin Prior, general manager of intu Metrocentre, said:
“We’re delighted to be hosting our first choir competition at intu Metrocentre and I’m honoured to be one of the judges. It’s wonderful to be able to showcase the talented choirs from around the region - hearing the malls ring out with the sound of carols always adds a magical atmosphere to our festive season.
We hope that our visitors give all of our contestants a warm festive welcome and encourage them to sing their socks off!“
