TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Showcased in Johannesburg Cycle Challenge

TIBCO has announced that it will be showcasing how its TIBCO Spotfire® data visualisation and analytics platform can be used to analyse training and race data to uncover the bigger picture for cyclists at the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge Expo - the largest cycling and health-related exhibition in the country and the southern hemisphere, running from the 17th - 19th November. TIBCO and Verve Cycling, maker of the team’s Infocrank powermeter, are collaborating to provide TIBCO’s own pro women’s cycling team, Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank, with proprietary access to meaningful performance metrics.

Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank will participate in the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge, taking place on the 20th November. This is the 947 Cycle Challenge’s 20th year and with the addition of new race sponsor Telkom, it promises to be faster and more furious than ever before. Expo attendees will be able to see how they stack up against some of the world’s fastest women by taking the “Team TIBCO Challenge” at the expo. The Challenge uses TIBCO’s real-time analysis and data visualisation software via a dashboard to rank the competitors. Participants are also welcome to meet Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank riders and receive advice from them ahead of the race.

Johannesburg’s biggest cycling event will see some 35,000 race attendees take over the “City of Gold” on two wheels, including Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank. Now in its 12th consecutive season, the team is excited about the collaboration with TIBCO and Verve that leverages TIBCO Spotfire to analyse training and race data. Analytics and data visualisation have been cited by the team as key ingredients that should take its riders to new levels of success. Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank is the longest running women’s professional cycling team in North America. After winning numerous national championships and becoming the top team in the country, the team turned its attention to international racing and now competes worldwide as part of the new Women’s World Tour.
