Mace lined up for £54m expansion at Twickenham
Developers Mace are the rumoured frontrunners for expansion work at Twickenham Stadium.
The £54m project will see the exterior of the ground’s east stand transformed to make way for six floors of conference and hospitality facilities, with construction estimated to begin by March 2017.
According to Construction Enquirer, Mace looks to be leading the race to deliver the eight-figure contract having previously worked on the project as project manager.
Once completed, the Mott McDonald-designed scheme will expand floorspace at Twickenham’s east stand to 220,000 sq ft, but the actual structure and shape of the ground will remain unchanged.
The 82,000-seater south west London stadium last underwent significant redevelopment in 2006, when the south stand was completely redeveloped to add 7,000 new seats.
