Young Pupils Stay Safe Ahead of Dark Nights
Children in Reception at Worsley Mesnes Community Primary School in Wigan, have been presented with high-visibility vests by the local Barratt Homes team at Blundell’s Wood in Highfield, Wigan.
The vests were donated to the primary school as part of an initiative to help keep local children safe when walking to and from school and on school trips, timed with the dark winter nights and mornings.
Sue Irving, sales manager at Blundell’s Wood, said: “With the onset of winter it is already getting dark when children come out of school, making it much more difficult for motorists to see pedestrians.“
“We want to help school children in the local community stay safe when out walking by offering high-visibility vests so they can be clearly seen by motorists.“
Worsley Mesnes Headteacher, Mr Worthington, thanked Barratt Homes for the vests, saying: “We try to encourage as many of our pupils as possible to walk to school in a safe and sensible fashion. It is great to see a developer support such a valuable initiative and we really appreciate the donation from Barratt Homes.“
In addition to involvement in school safety initiatives, Barratt Homes has funding for local projects available through their Barratt Legacy Programme. Community groups, charities, schools and colleges in and around the Wigan area are being invited to come forward to apply for new funds available through this community initiative.
Barratt Homes Manchester Managing Director, Neil Goodwin said:
“Every Barratt Homes development becomes an integral part of the surrounding community. We don’t want to simply build homes and move on; our vision is to build the homes of the future where people want to live and to leave a lasting legacy in those areas.
“Barratt Manchester Legacy Programme is incredibly important to our business and we are now looking for new opportunities. Whilst we can’t help every not for profit project or organisation that applies – we consider every single case very carefully, and take immense pride in the small contributions we are able to make.“
