Stockton bar marks final piece of regeneration puzzle

A popular area of central Stockton has welcomed a sophisticated new drinking establishment thanks to investment from a leading North East property company.

Jomast Developments has successfully brought back to life 9-10 Silver Court, in the Wasps Nest Yard area of the town.

The newest addition, named Hope and Union, which opened earlier this month, offers customers the latest in keg and cask ales, the highest quality wines and a large range of premium spirits. There are also plans in place to serve food.

The bar’s name is rooted in the area’s local heritage, having been taken from two of the engines that were used on the original Stockton to Darlington railway in 1825.

The new owner of the bar, John Christie, spoke about the new venue, saying “We love Stockton, we love the people and we really hope that with the extension of The Georgian Theatre and all the other great venues around us, this little part of Stockton will become a vibrant, friendly place to spend your time.”

The bar is the final piece of the regeneration puzzle for Jomast in Stockton’s cultural quarter, having previously redeveloped a number of buildings in the yard.

Last year Jomast successfully opened The Wasps Nest micropub and more recently the Stockton based property developer has been working with Concept Cocktail on a second branch of the exclusive Middlesbrough cocktail bar, The Nuthatch, which also opened in Stockton this month.

Mark Hill, Commercial Property Director at Jomast spoke about the developments, saying “We’re really excited to be a part of this new project with John Christie.

“This previously vacant area of Stockton is now turning into a real oasis with its high quality offerings where people can come and relax, enjoy a drink and something to eat in stylish surroundings.”
