Gett launches car pooling service at Tube-challenging price point
Taxi app Gett is to launch a new carpooling service in the capital that could see it challenging the Tube as the most affordable way to get around London.
Announced today at the TechCrunch’s Disrupt conference, the new Gett Together service will launch for some users today with a wider roll out across the capital next week.
In a direct challenge to UberPool, the new service will allow users travelling in the same direction to share taxi rides and split the cost, with the potential to drive down costs to around the price of a Tube ride.
The capital’s carpooling service will lead the way for the Israeli-based tech firm, with Gett expected to launch the service in New York soon.
Gett founder and Chief Executive, Shahar Waiser said: “It’s a shared commute. There are many people in the car and actually using black cabs there’s the opportunity to have more people in the car in comfort.
“And because of that, we can achieve, firstly, faster speeds because we have access to the bus lanes.”
Founded in 2010, Gett has expanded to encompass over 100 markets around the world and received $300m investment from Volkswagen back in May.
