Blyth Town steam rolls into SeniorCup semi-final
Blyth Town FC First Team has steam rolled into the semi-finals of the Northumberland Senior Cup after a 2-1 victory at Team Northumbria FC’s grounds on November 28.
Both goals were scored by top goal scorer centre forward Malky Morien with a shot deflected and the other following a strong cross from John Grey to head in another in the second half.
Blyth Town FC First Team manager Mick Connor was “over the moon” to have beaten a team he referred to as the best in the league.
“Our lads are truly at the top of their game at the minute and I believe it will take a good team now to beat us,” he said.
“The lads have the confidence, the ability and the self-belief that we can take this all the way in this division. In the first 10-15 minutes, Team Northumbria were the better team which only drove Blyth Town’s determination.
“I think with a strong squad, we have found the right formation in our games and now need to push to get those 12 points by the end of the year. We are playing some good teams over the next few weeks so we need these wins to get us where we want to be.”
Blyth Town FC First Team needs another 52 points to be able to qualify for promotion by the end of the season and if they succeed, will be the first team in 125 years to do so in their first season in the Northern League.
Connor continued: “I am very ambitious as a manager and we are now looking very comfortable in this league and really think coming into a very important month with Heaton Stannington, Billingham Synthonia, Easington Colliery and Bedlington Terriers all to play before the turn of the year, we could end up on the magical 50+ points and if we can, I believe we will be in the mix for promotion.”
Centre half, Josh Miller, is still out on injury along with Ian Lee, Captain Iveson and striker Gary Day will be out for six weeks following an operation for ‘Gilmore’s Groin’.
Blyth Town FC First Team play at home on Saturday 10th December against Easington Colliery - 3pm Kick Off. Tickets are £6 on the door with concessions available.
